CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A Mecklenburg County court employee was arrested after she allegedly brought a gun into the courthouse earlier this week.

An affidavit alleged that the 56-year-old woman tried passing through the courthouse security entrance on Tuesday, Oct. 21. When she was being screened, the gun was found in the bottom of a bag.

According to the affidavit, the woman claimed she had been in an unsafe place and forgot to take the gun out of her lunch bag before coming into the courthouse. A check of the gun found it was not stolen and the affidavit said the woman was cooperative the whole time.

Despite the alleged oversight, the woman was arrested and charged with possession of a deadly weapon at a courthouse.
