The two leading parties in Montreal’s municipal election campaign released their financial plans for the city on Thursday, detailing how they intend to spend on their priorities and where they will find the revenue to do so.
Projet Montréal’s Luc Rabouin says his campaign promises would cost $607 million over the next four years, in addition to investments totalling $313 million. He would fund the efforts through new taxes and “optimizing” the city’s operations.
Ensemble Montréal’s Soraya Martinez Ferrada says her campaign promises would total just under $303 million and her administration would spend another $444 million on investments. The plan would in large part be funded by cutting 1,000 jobs from the city’s public service.
Here is a closer look at their respective financial plans.
