WACO, Texas (FOX 44) - A former Waco Police officer has been indicted by a McLennan County Grand Jury for Tampering with Physical Evidence.
The Waco Police Department says it is "deply disturbed" by the actions of 24-year-old Rene Martinez, and that his actions do not reflect the integrity, values, ethical standards, and high expectations the agency strives to uphold and expects of all its employees.
An internal investigation into the allegations of misconduct began on July 26, 2025. Martinez was placed on administrative leave with pay.
The department says a criminal investigation commenced on August 1, 2025, following notification to leadership of potential criminal violations identified during a prior investigation conducted by Martinez.
