A 20-year-old man has tragically died and another young man is recovering in hospital after an alleged stabbing in Hobart’s renowned Salamanca area.

Police were called to a fight between two groups of men about midnight on Sunday at the Morrison Street car park near the Salamanca district.

Authorities confirmed that two men were stabbed during the altercation.

One of the men, aged 20 could not be saved and died at the scene.

Another, aged 23 was rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is receiving ongoing treatment.

Police confirmed a 20-year-old male was in custody and was assisting authorities.

It is believed the alleged stabbing was an isolated incident with authorities linking the fight to a previous encounter which involved a person from each of the groups.
