‘Human error’ led to migrant sex offender’s release, says Lammy

The Justice Secretary says it was probably human error that led to a failed asylum seeker and sex offender being released from prison when he should have been sent to an immigration detention centre until he was deported.

David Lammy told MPs that he’d ordered an independent investigation into the mistake, which the Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick called a ‘national embarrassment’.
