The state is giving Foodshare $3 million to purchase additional meals as families around Connecticut face the possibility of losing their SNAP benefits on Saturday.

Gov. Ned Lamont (D-Connecticut) announced the funding at Foodbank’s Wallingford warehouse as volunteers prepared the meals for distribution.

He said the funding is meant to be a short-term aid as states wait for Congress to vote on a bill to reopen the federal government or at least fund the SNAP program.

“Finally, we wanted to pull the trigger and make sure we can take care of people in time for the cards going off,” Lamont said.
