LAWRENCE, Mass. —
A former Massachusetts police officer was indicted on four federal charges in connection with allegations that he assaulted a man who was in custody and lied about the incident.
Capt. Michael Mangan, formerly of the Lawrence Police Department, faces two counts each of deprivation of rights under color of law and false report.
Mangan, a resident of New Hampshire, was previously named as a defendant in a civil rights lawsuit that accused him of using "unreasonable and excessive use of force and other tortious conduct" against a Black man during an arrest on March 10, 2023.
