GREENVILLE, S.C. —
This is the time of year when food banks and food pantries already see a high demand.
Add to that the threat to SNAP benefits being lost because of the federal government shutdown, and experts say you're looking at a potential crisis of food insecurity.
To address the need with nutrition in mind, the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Rural Health and Nutrition team has put together a Food Pantry Giving Guide .
Extension associate Michelle Altman is a registered nurse on that team.
She said as many as 550,000 South Carolinians would be directly impacted by a loss of SNAP benefits, so the public's donations to food banks and pantries are critical, and just as important is what we donate.
