CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Vi Lyles will become Charlotte's longest-serving Democratic mayor after winning Tuesday's election .

Lyles won with 70% of the votes over Republican Terrie Donovan and Libertarian Rob Yates. Lyles' fifth term will last until 2027, giving her a longer tenure than any other Democratic Charlotte mayor. Republican Pat McCrory served 14 years from 1995 to 2009.

The city of Charlotte has touted Lyles' commitment to affordable housing, racial equity initiatives, and the long-term 2040 Comprehensive Plan. She’s also made infrastructure, public transit, and support for small and minority-owned businesses key priorities throughout her administration.
