PHOENIX — The FBI said Wednesday that a missing girl from California may have traveled through Arizona.

The FBI Los Angeles Field Office and sheriff's deputies in Santa Barbara County, California, are asking for the public's assistance in locating missing nine-year-old Melodee Buzzard.

According to the FBI, law enforcement authorities attempted to contact Melodee and her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, at their Lompoc, California, home after a school administrator reported her prolonged absence on Oct. 14.

Investigators believe Melodee left California with her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, in a Chevrolet Malibu on Oct. 7. The Malibu has a California license plate 9MNG101, the FBI said. The vehicle was reportedly determined to be a rental and no longer in the mother's possession.
