A 68-year-old British man was shot dead during a robbery in southern Ghana, local police have said.

The incident reportedly took place on Friday at a drinking spot opposite the Community Nine cemetery in Tema, about 15 miles east of the capital. The victim was rushed to the Tema General Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.

Officers from the Tema Regional Police Commander said that the victim was sitting with a group when six young men arrived on motorbikes, one of whom snatched his phone, Modern Ghana reports.

A statement read: "Two of the assailants approached the group, and one of them snatched the victim’s mobile phone from the table. When the victim attempted to retrieve his phone, one of the suspects shot, and the gang fled the scene on their motorbikes. The Tema Regio
