DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. - DeSoto County Crime Stoppers has no records showing that it has given a tip to law enforcement or paid an informant in the last decade, according to Mississippi State Auditor Shad White.
White said that the organization spent nearly $400,000 over the past 10 years "while not being able to provide evidence that it ever gave a tip on a crime to law enforcement or gave a reward to anyone who reported a crime to law enforcement."
The nonprofit allows citizens the ability to anonymously report tips on potential criminal activity. In similar Crime Stoppers organizations, cash rewards are given in exchange for tips that lead to successful arrests and prosecutions.
