Toyota Motor Corporation is recalling more than 126,000 trucks and SUVs because their engines could stall while driving, raising the risk of a crash.

The recall was issued for about 126,691 Toyota and Lexus vehicles, according to a notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Thursday, Nov. 6. The issue affects 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra pickups, 2022-2024 Lexus LX SUVs, and 2024 Lexus GX SUVs equipped with a V35A engine.

Debris from the manufacturing process may contaminate the engine and damage the main bearings.

"This can lead to potential engine knocking, engine rough running, engine no start and/or an engine stall," the NHTSA wrote in its recall report.

Not all vehicles built during the production period were sold in the U.S. A fix for the issue is still being developed.

The recall impacts the following vehicles:

  • Toyota Tundra (2022-2024): 113,079
  • Lexus LX (2022-2024): 9,895
  • Lexus GX (2024): 3,717

Toyota will start mailing interim warning letters to owners on Monday, Dec. 22. Final repair notices will be sent once the fix is available.

The recall comes about a month after a separate Toyota issue was revealed involving backup camera failures. Nearly 400,000 vehicles were affected, including more than 220,000 Toyota Tundras from the model years 2022 through 2025.
