A Scots man died alongside his friend after his surfboard snapped off the coast of Australia. ‌

Calum Ian McCombie, 36, was surfing at Frankston Beach, 28 miles south-east of Melbourne, on October 22 when his board split in two during hazardous conditions at sea. ‌

His friend Nicho Muggleton, 43, raced to his rescue as Calum struggled in the water. However, Nicho was also overwhelmed by the fierce waves. ‌

Emergency crews, including a police helicopter, rushed to the scene within minutes but neither man could be revived .

Calum had been living in Australia for 14 years and is said to have taken up surfing two years ago.
