CASA GRANDE, AZ (AZFamily) — A man has been indicted on federal charges after authorities say he intentionally burned down a portion of a synagogue in Casa Grande earlier this year.

On Tuesday, a federal grand jury indicted Everardo Gregorio, 31, on a charge of “ obstruction of the free exercise of religious beliefs by fire ," a hate crime. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both.

Pinal County prosecutors previously charged Gregorio with arson.

The indictment alleges that in the early morning hours of March 3, Gregorio set fire to Khal Chasidim, a synagogue located on 8th Street, off of Florence Boulevard . Officials say the flames destroyed a kosher grocery store and a restaurant that operated out of the building. Luckily, no one was injure
