BIG RAPIDS — A shelter-in-place warning was issued Friday morning after police and fire crews responded to a suspicious object found in the parking lot of the Water Tower Apartments.
Per a Nov. 21 news release, the Big Rapids Police Department and Big Rapids Fire Department were called to the 800 block of Water Tower Road around 8:40 a.m. and located a plastic pop bottle containing an unknown chemical. Residents of the apartment complex were asked to remain inside, and others were urged to avoid the area.
The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad was requested to inspect the object. The squad responded and used a robot to render it inert.
Samples of the contents were collected and will be sent to the Michigan State Police Forensic Lab in Grand Rapids for testing.
