LAPLACE, La. — Video shows rescuers with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office save two men from a sinking boat in Lake Pontchartrain, about half a mile south of the Peavine Boat Launch in LaPlace Friday morning.

According to the sheriff’s office, the men had been collecting shrimp nets when two waves struck the stern of their 25-foot vessel, causing it to take on water and sink.

The Coast Guard alerted the sheriff’s office to the incident shortly before 8:30 a.m. SJSO’s Search and Rescue Team found the men—an 18-year-old and a 65-year-old—clinging to the rigging of the sunken boat.

Both were safely returned to shore.
