NEW ORLEANS — Four families were displaced Friday after a fire swept through an apartment complex in West Lake Forest, according to the New Orleans Fire Department.
The fire broke out in a third-floor unit at the Laguna Reserve Apartments around 12:44 p.m.
Seventeen NOFD units responded, and a second alarm was requested shortly after 1 p.m. as flames spread into the building’s common attic. Firefighters brought the blaze under control around 1:30 p.m.
The resident of the third-floor apartment told investigators he awoke to the smell of smoke, then opened a shed near his front door and saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the floor. The apartment below was unoccupied and undergoing renovations.
The American Red Cross was called in to assist the four families displaced by the fire. Off
