WIMBERLEY, Texas — Two foxes in Wimberley have tested positive for rabies, according to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).
Animal control officers recently picked up the foxes after receiving reports of other foxes showing symptoms of the disease, officials said.
The sheriff’s office noted that rabies cases are not uncommon in Hays County or across Texas.
Officials shared the following safety tips to help residents protect themselves and their pets:
Avoid approaching high-risk animals that often carry rabies, including foxes, raccoons, coyotes, skunks and bats.
Contact your local animal shelter if you see one of these animals acting strangely or believe you’ve come into physical contact with them.
Ensure your pets’ rabies vaccinations are up to date.
