CHARLESTON — As the pedestrian bridge that will eventually span the Ashley River continues to take shape, city officials are expecting final designs for its landing on the peninsula to come this week.
The long-awaited Ashley River Crossing that will carry foot and bike traffic from Charleston’s population center to its downtown job hub is on schedule to open in mid-2027, said Jason Kronsberg, section chief of the city’s Capital Projects division.
“The West Ashley span is moving along quite nicely,” he said. “They've installed 1,600 linear feet from the river's edge almost to where the bridge will land, and what everybody is seeing now is the actual surface of the portion of the bridge over marsh.”
