NORTH CHARLESTON — State revenue officials are taking steps to permanently halt alcohol sales at a Rivers Avenue nightclub linked to two shootings in less than five months.
On Nov. 14, the Department of Revenue suspended Aqua Lounge and Nightclub’s license to sell alcohol due to violations. The Administrative Law Court held an emergency suspension hearing Nov. 24, granting the club owner, Lorenzo Lavar Johnson, the chance to challenge the decision.
Following that hearing, the court will decide if the suspension should remain in effect.
The nightclub at 5624 Rivers Ave., received its liquor license and beer and wine permit on April 17. The club first applied for the licenses to sell alcohol beverages on Aug. 13, 2024, but the application was denied due to nearby residents protesting the
