NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Coast Guard suspended its search Wednesday for two missing people on Lake Ponchartrain after their aircraft lost communications with air traffic control.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans command center watchstanders received a report Monday from air traffic control at New Orleans Lakefront Airport that they lost communications with two people aboard an aircraft approximately 4 miles north of the airport over Lake Ponchartrain.the
Coast Guard crews searched by air and water for approximately 45 hours, covering more than 770 square miles prior to suspending the search. Coast Guard Small Boat Station New Orleans and Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans were involved in the search.
