Two police officers have been brutally stabbed on a UK city street as they responded to a call about a wanted man.

Police have confirmed two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the PSNI officers were assaulted as they tried to arrest two men.

An officer who was stabbed in the leg was taken to hospital for treatment, while the other officer who was stabbed in the chest was wearing equipment which protected them. Another officer and a custody officer were also assaulted.

Deputy Chief Constable Bobby Singleton said: "During the early hours of this morning, Thursday 27th November, police were conducting enquiries in relation to a wanted person in the Collon Lane area of the city.
