LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Two Louisville Metro Police officers were able to reunite for a happy ending to a story that started as dangerous and frightening.

A few months ago, LMPD Officers Capito and Richardson responded to a house fire. Once they arrived on scene, the structure was engulfed. One child was severely hurt. The scene was chaotic.

That’s when the officers learned in the chaos that one child was still inside the Rayburn family home.

A heroic neighbor made his way in first. Then, without thinking, the two officers ran in, without protection. They searched the home until they finally found the child, unconscious, curled near the glass, his tiny hands bloodied from trying to escape. The child had fought as hard as he could, until he was rendered unconscious from the heavy smoke.
