SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Just before 3 p.m. on Saturday, the Springfield Fire Department rushed over to 17 Washington Street for a house fire.

Upon arriving to the scene, first responders spotted a porch on the second floor of the building completely ablaze. Crews worked to put out the flames without any injuries. Nine people are displaced as a result of the fire. The residents are currently being assisted by the Red Cross.

The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad determined that careless disposal of smoking materials is the cause of the fire. There are no further details at this time.
