A massive house fire tore through a Rockville home Sunday night, causing more than $1 million dollars in damage and drawing nearly 60 Montgomery County firefighters to the scene, officials said.
The blaze broke out around 5:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Mannakee Street, where crews arrived to find heavy fire ripping through all floors of a two-and-a-half-story single-family home, according to MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer.
Firefighters initially launched a defensive attack to knock down the flames before transitioning inside. Piringer said all occupants made it out safely, and no injuries were reported.
Crews worked to stop the fire from spreading while smoke poured from the roof and flames pushed through the upper floors. A neighbor called 911 before firefighters arrived.
Piringer said the fire appeared to have started in the area of a back porch, though the cause remains under investigation.
On Sunday night, firefighters had the main body of the fire out and were checking for hotspots. Piringer said the home sustained “significant damage" that is expected to possibly exceed $1 million.
Photos from the scene showed heavy fire blowing out of the upper level, melted siding, and ladders stretching up the front of the home as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
The fire remains under investigation.
