Allegheny Health Network increased revenue while holding down expenses through the end of September, driving the system into the black for the third consecutive quarter this year.
The health system increased operating revenue 8.2% to $1.4 billion for the three months ending Sept. 30 and 10.6% to $4.19 billion year to date while limiting expenditures to 5.18% or $1.39 billion for the quarter and 6.1% or $4.11 billion year to date.
The result was operating income of $7 million for the three months ending Sept. 30, compared to a loss of $30.9 million a year ago, and $78.7 million in income from operations year to date, which compared to a loss of $88.1 million a year ago — a year over year operating improvement of $166.9 million.
