LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The Louisville Metro Council is honoring former Louisville mayor Greg Fischer’s parents with a newly-named street.
Metro Council rededicated the corner of East Witherspoon and North Floyd Streets, changing it from George Fischer Way to Mary Lee and George Fischer Way, updated to honor the former mayor’s mother who died earlier this year.
George was a well-known entrepreneur who died in 2022. The new sign celebrates their shared legacy of service to the community.
During today’s ceremony, former Mayor Fischer calling his parent’s life “a Louisville story”
“They knew each other for 78 years they met as youngsters in the Chumba Club. They knew each other 78 years," Fischer recalled.
