This record was set during the peak of the Thanksgiving travel season, despite weather problems in the Midwest.

The big picture: The previous single-day record was 3.09 million passengers on June 22. • Airlines for America estimated 31 million airline travelers in the 11-day holiday period ending Monday. • The Federal Aviation Administration expected over 360,000 flights during the nine-day stretch ending December 2, the highest in 15 years.
