A strong coastal low will bring soaking rain to Eastern North Carolina tonight into Tuesday. Rain develops after midnight and continues through Tuesday afternoon, with most areas picking up 1–1.5″ and locally higher totals along the coast and Outer Banks. A few thunderstorms may brush coastal communities with a very low risk of a brief damaging wind gust or spin-up.
As the low passes, dangerous surf and minor coastal flooding are possible along the coast including the Outer Banks, with a High Surf Advisory from Cape Hatteras to Cape Lookout as 6–9 ft breakers impact vulnerable dune structures and sections of Highway 12. Rain ends from west to east late Tuesday, followed by colder, drier air midweek.
