For some, the Christmas season is officially upon us when Mariah Carey starts warming up her vocal chords. For others, it’s after the first mince pie or advent calendar chocolate.

But for many Londoners, it is the arrival of the Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square that marks the start of the festivities.

On Monday December 1, the 79th Trafalgar Square Christmas tree duly arrived in the capital.

The tree, a 20m tall Norwegian spruce, has come from a forest in Oslo - Norway has gifted a tree to the UK every year since 1947, as thanks for support during World War Two.

The spruce, which has been named “Ever Oslo” is about 65 years old, and was selected by experts and through a social media poll.

It was felled last month in a ceremony attended by Westminster's Lord Mayor, Pau
