STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — While traffic in New York is always rough, the next few weeks could be the worst of the year.
Between now and the end of the year, various weekdays have been designated as gridlock alert days by the New York City Department of Transportation.
Gridlock Alert Days are when city officials predict unusually high traffic volumes on city streets, with residents encouraged to use alternate forms of transportation whenever possible.
The first few gridlock days of the year typically coincide with the start of the United Nations General Assembly, with the annual event typically leading to extensive street closures and delays across Manhattan.
