The First Minister has told journalists the Reform UK leader Nigel Farage holds views that are 'simply racist'.

John Swinney made the comments following remarks Mr Farage made about a high number of pupils at schools in Glasgow who do not have English as their first language.

"I think Nigel Farage 's comments are quite simply racist," Mr Swinney told reporters.

"That's what they are. There is no other way to describe them. I don't know quite when we believed that multilingualism was something of a problem in our society.

"It is certainly not a view I have taken. I think it is a benefit. I think it reflects the diversity of our country.

"And I think what these comments from Nigel Farage demonstrate is that he is a purveyor of racist views. People should think about that long and
