JOHN Swinney has responded to Nigel Farage's attack on Glasgow schoolchildren, calling it "quite simply racist".

The First Minister said there was no other way to describe the Reform UK leader's remarks when questioned by journalists on Thursday.

Farage had claimed those who don't principally speak English are "culture smashing" Glasgow , citing Scottish Government figures that almost one in three Glasgow schoolkids do not speak English as a first language.

The Reform UK leader said: "This is not diversity, as the left always preach, this actually is the cultural smashing of Glasgow.

"It's turning it into a completely different city in every way. My question is, who voted for this? Who told anybody in Scotland this was actually happening?"
