A van driver looked astonished as he asked police "Have I hit him?" after causing a crash that killed a cyclist.

Matthew Marston, 41, was jailed for nine years after fatally hitting Aran Potkin, 40, with his white Renault Trafic on the westbound carriageway of the A31 in Farnham, Surrey , on October 24, 2023.

The cyclist, from Farnham, tragically died at the scene. His wife, Poppy Potkin, described him as "incredibly smart, challenging and absolutely gorgeous" at the sentencing on Wednesday.

The incident was reported by a member of the public who witnessed the crash, SurreyLive reports. They said they saw the van driving on the inside lane before swerving to the right. Officers eventually located Marston about 800 metres from the crash, observing damage to the front of his vehicle.
