A southwest London railway station has been recognised for its stunning makeover after a major refurbishment brought it back to its art deco heyday.
Richmond railway station underwent a £325,000 makeover in 2023, with work carried out on its façade, ticket hall, and entrance canopy. The restoration carefully preserved the station’s historic character while giving it a fresh, welcoming feel for visitors.
Now, it features a classic square clock, authentic 1930s-style details including bronze fascia panels, a distinctive “Glasscrete” effect canopy, timber frieze and green glass signage, as well as Art Deco–inspired chandeliers lighting up the booking hall.
The transformation was completed in September this year and has been officially recognised with a National Heritage Railway Award.
