Police arrested a 10-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy on Dec. 3 after they were seen "showing off" a gun at a Buckeye park, according to a city news release.

According to the news release, the boys were accused of trying to hide the gun when confronted by officers.

Buckeye Police Department officers arrested the boys after receiving a report at 5:45 p.m. that alleged a group of males was handling a gun at a park near Sundance Parkway and 219th Lane, according to the news release.

The 10-year-old had a handgun inside a backpack that matched the description provided by a witness, police stated in the news release.

The gun was not loaded when police seized it, according to Carissa Planalp, a public information officer for Buckeye police.
