Skiers and snowboarders welcomed Sun Valley Resort’s 2025-26 ski season Wednesday morning with live tunes, hot chocolate, gleeful turns and even the resort’s mascot, Sunny the Bear.

The resort opened its River Run base for the season on Wednesday, providing guests access to College, Sunset Strip and Lower River Run via the River Run Express and Lookout Express. The resort had been forced to postpone its opening day past Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, because warm weather prevented it from making enough snow to open as scheduled.

The snowmaking crew’s efforts paid off on Wednesday.
