HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Former WYMT Chief Meteorologist Jim Caldwell wrapped up a nearly 25 year television career Friday.

In 2001, the Magoffin County native was hired by Tony Turner at WYMT as chief weathercaster. He was only 18 years old.

He became a member of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association in March 2003 and earned his Broadcast Meteorology Certificate from Mississippi State University.

Caldwell joined the WKYT First Alert Weather team in June 2013 after more than 12 years at WYMT. He has received three AP Best Weather Anchor awards during his career.

Between the two stations, he was on the air during coverage of many natural disasters, including some of the worst flooding and tornado events in Kentucky’s history.
