Hopes for a second straight conference crown were ended by a wild fourth-down play and a last-minute touchdown.
Jax State rallied for a lead from a 12-0 deficit in the fourth quarter on Friday before falling to Kennesaw State, 19-15, on a touchdown with just 52 seconds to play in the Conference USA championship game.
Leading 15-12, the Gamecocks forced a fourth and 14 with just 1:07 left to play, but CUSA title game MVP Amari Odom ran 14 yards for a first down before being met with a late hit out of bounds from the Gamecock defense.
Odom then found receiver Navelle Dean for a 7-yard touchdown just one play later; he finished 26-for-32 passing for 246 yards and a touchdown for the visiting Owls.
