An Edinburgh bakery has closed its doors leaving locals gutted. Maria's Kakes on Albert Place, owned by married couple Hadas and Rocco, is now shut down - though their London Road shop remains open.

Residents said they would 'miss popping in for a chat'. Owners said they 'love and appreciate the community' as they made the announcement.

Posting to Facebook , Maria said: "Good afternoon all, Maria's Kakes is officially closed now but not to worry we are still operating from Maria's Kitchen (5 London road).

"Having the shop was one of my biggest dreams I truly love and appreciate the community I have created, thank you. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon at Maria's Kitchen and Christmas cakes are available to pre order now."
