The hunt for Portland’s Santa Clones began this week.
Nearly every December since 2010, local artist Chris Willis has displayed hundreds of 13-inch blow-mold Santas in a different location every year. It’s become a city-wide Christmas treasure hunt, with clues to the Santas’ whereabouts posted on the @thesantaclones Instagram account.
This year’s army of vintage light-up Santa Clauses officially reported for duty on Dec. 4. They’ll be lit up from 4-11 p.m. nightly through Jan. 1.
Back in 2010, Willis commissioned local artist Terence Healy to paint two portraits of the same Santa , one showing the blow-mold in daylight, and one glowing at night. This year’s display includes four enlarged images of those paintings, not too far from the clones themselves.
