CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) - Firefighters are reminding the public to exercise caution when jump-starting a vehicle after responding to a vehicle fire.

Chesterfield Fire and EMS responded to the 143000 block of Spring Gate Court just before 11 a.m. Saturday.

The vehicle fire occurred in the driveway of the home and was upgraded to a house fire call. Fortunately, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it spread to the garage or the house, resulting in only siding damage. Thankfully, there were no injuries.

Firefighters determined that the fire started while the homeowner was jump-starting their car. They want to remind the public to exercise caution when jump-starting a vehicle. When doing so, always ensure that you do not leave your car unattended, wear proper eye protection
