NEW LONDON, Conn. (WFSB) - Police are investigating an assault that left a man hospitalized on Sunday evening.

The assault happened around 5:33 p.m near 265 Broad St.

According to police, crews received a 911 call reporting a male bleeding heavily from the face.

Officers found the man and said he had facial injuries. A perimeter was established and the injured man was brought to the hospital.

The victim’s injuries did not appear life threatening, police said.

Detectives responded to the scene to process evidence. The incident did not appear to be a random act, according to police.

The investigation remained active.
