GASTONIA, N.C. — A 16-year-old is facing multiple charges for allegedly shooting a 13-year-old girl in Gastonia on Sunday, police said.
Gastonia Police responded to a reported shooting along Bryant Street, just off Linwood Road, around 4:45 p.m. Sunday. When officers arrived, they found a 13-year-old girl who'd been shot in the abdomen.
Investigators say the teen was shot by a 16-year-old. The suspect, who hasn't been identified due to his age, was taken into custody and is charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and possession of a handgun by a minor.
The investigation remains active. Detectives are still working to determine what led up to the shooting.
