If the Calgary Flames opt to trade Rasmus Andersson, they could wind up receiving an even bigger package than initially expected.

Andersson, who is in the final season of a six-year contract, has been subjected to trade speculation dating as far back as the 2024-25 campaign. With the Flames years away from being a Stanley Cup contender, moving the 29-year-old for future pieces would help speed up their rebuilding timeline.

The concern over trading Andersson throughout the summer was that he was coming off a disappointing 2024-25 season, one in which he ended with a plus/minus of -38. The hope was that he would bounce back in 2025-26, and he’s done just that.
