TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City commissioners discussed the future of three downtown landmarks during a study session, focusing on the Carnegie Library, Bijou by the Bay, and the City Opera House.

The Carnegie Library, currently home to the Crooked Tree Arts Center, and the Bijou by the Bay Building, formerly a museum and now a theater, were key points of discussion. Commissioners expressed concerns about the arts center’s ability to cover expenses and the need to find a tenant who can manage utilities.

Community members voiced their desire to maintain the layout of the Bijou by the Bay but suggested using it for live music events. “Definitely a proponent of that,” one member said, emphasizing the importance of attracting younger generations through diverse events.
