Born from long winter days and too many episodes of the “Great British Baking Show,” Black Spruce Brewing Company’s second annual gingerbread house contest provided a rowdy and delicious competition. Participants pulled out all the stops on Saturday for a snapping good time.
Co-owner Stephany Haskins came up with the idea for the contest, but misjudged the earnestness of competition.
“I dramatically underestimated how serious people would take this,” Haskins said. “Everyone’s creativity never ceases to amaze me.”
Entries were limited to teams of two with each getting a pre-made gingerbread house kit, but participants could bring anything edible from home to include and they got really creative using Swedish Fish for salmon, coconut flakes dyed green to look like grass and pretzel sticks
