HESPERIA, Mich. — In a letter to parents Wednesday evening, Hesperia Community Schools shared that a third-grade student and a parent died in a car crash that morning.

"It is with heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the loss of one of our students," began the letter from Superintendent Bryan D. Mey.

Mey confirmed to 13 On Your Side that the crash that took the student's and parents' lives was the crash in Egleston Township , on Maple Island Drive.

"Our sincerest thoughts and prayers are with their family at this unimaginably difficult time," the letter continued. "We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers as well."
