When it comes to convenience store chains, New Jerseyans have no shortage of options to visit.

Wawa, once the South Jersey answer to QuickChek, has steadily made its way north over the past several years. The chain has 296 locations in New Jersey, according to ScrapeHero , including three in Sussex County that are the northernmost of any of the more than 1,100 company stores .

For Wawa officials, part of the attraction to North Jersey undoubtedly stems from the available space to build in the area. But while some stores have been built on previously empty land, others replaced popular, long-standing local businesses.
